Sloan Consulting Limited is a boutique valuation consultancy practice which specialises in the preparation of business valuation opinions for a wide-range of purposes which include:

The Principal
The company principal, Don Sloan, holds a master of Commerce degree with first-class honours from the University of Canterbury and over the last 30 years has been extensively involved in the sale and valuation of a wide-range of businesses and professional practices. Don was responsible for the design and concept development of the Bizstats™ database which stores and supplies statistics on the previous sale of businesses in New Zealand for valuation purposes. He has co-presented two national seminar series on buying, selling and valuing the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) on behalf of the (then) New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants and in recent years has been course facilitator for an annual two-day business valuation masterclass held in Auckland.
The Standards
In 2002, the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants introduced Business Valuation Standard AES-2. This standard effectively divides business valuation reports and opinions into two categories:
- Indicative Valuations
This category of valuation is not required to comply with the provisions of AES-2. Indicative valuations may be based on a limited review of available information about the business and are typically suited to advisory applications where an actual transaction may not be contemplated. - Conforming Valuations
This category of valuation complies with the provisions of AES-2 and involves a more detailed and in depth assessment of the subject business. This type of valuation is typically suited to financial transaction applications where a high degree of accuracy, reliability and dependability may be required.
